Happy Birthday, Gabey!

Today is Gabey's third birthday!  We have a hard time believing that our little boy is three already.  All week long, we've been trying to explain to him that his age will be changing from 2 to 3 and at first he didn't believe us.  Also, we were trying to explain to him that he was going to have a party, with presents, etc. just for him.  Gabriel didn't have a good idea of what was going on partly because the last party he was at for Karina, he had just turned two and probably didn't remember that.  Hopefully, he'll remember this one.

So we started decorating the house.  The girls helped out by weaving green and orange streamers (his favorite colors) into the stair railings.  He kept asking, "Why are there decorations?"  And we kept explaining it to him.
The girls also decorated the front door.
We made cupcakes using yellow cake mix.  Except that he requested ORANGE cupcakes with green frosting.  So with a little food coloring...voila!
Karina helped by pouring the batter into the tins.
In the afternoon, Grandpa and Grandma came over and delivering a bunch of balloons, which all the kids love.  Aunt Gretchen and cousin Lena were in town and also came over.
Xiao Yu absolutely adores these things...
Then before dinner, we opened presents.  This part he really enjoyed.  He got two Octonaut books (which Karina was really impressed with as she likes this series too.)
And he got a wooden train set (which Xiao Yu is very impressed with.)
Gabey also got a little stuffed animal bird that makes the actual bird sound when you squeeze a button on its back.  The girls wanted to get him this as the girls have one of these but he does not.  Plus it's green.
He got an orange t-shirt with "3" emblazoned on the front.
Grandma also brought gifts for everyone...paint brushes.
The kids used these outside on the driveway to paint with water.  It's great fun; they painted the driveway and the house for a long time.
Then it was time for dinner--pizza.
And what was on Gabriel's slice?  Olives, of course!
After dinner, the girls helped by slathering green icing on the cupcakes.

Before, we sang Happy Birthday, Elvin caught Gabriel outside eating a contraband cupcake that he pilfered without permission.  He's a sneaky one!
We all got together to sing.  At first, he wasn't totally sure what was going on.
But he knew when it was time to blow...
Yay!
The orange and green cupcakes were delicious.
All in all, we hope that it was a fun day for our special, funny, smart boy.  Happy birthday, Gabriel!
