Happy Birthday, Xiao!

This past January, Xiao Yu turned 8 years old!  The kids wanted to help decorate and so after he was in bed, they strung a bunch of crepe paper strips outside his door.  And then when it was time to come out of his room, they were there to see his reaction.  Even Lucky was upstairs (which normally he is not allowed upstairs) to watch.

It's a tradition for the kids' birthdays that Elvin draws something and tapes it to their chair.  Xiao Yu's been watching a robot video online and that's who wished him happy birthday this year.

Xiao requested cupcakes as his birthday cake this year and that's what he got.

Among other things, for his present he got a red envelope from Elvin's parents.

He also got a ukulele.  He had one before but it got pretty beat up.

So what's his routine been like?  In the mornings, he has breakfast which almost always starts with a banana.  It's his favorite fruit and he probably has one 90% of the time.

And then it's time for school.  With COVID, he has been home schooled along with the three other kids.  He works on reading, learning math and writing sentences.

However, he also has sessions with some teachers at school to help him work on special skills.

And when not doing school work, he spends a lot of time drawing things.  He likes to make cards and give them to people.

He also likes to make shapes with these beads which you later can melt together using a hot clothes iron.

And he spends a lot of time playing outside doing various things.  He likes to collect various materials from around the yard and combine them into mud pies with lots of ingredients mixed in.

So that's our Xiao Yu!  We're excited to see what age 8 brings!
