Happy 4th Birthday, Xiao Yu!

A couple of weeks ago, Xiao Yu turned four years old!  He knew that his birthday was coming up and got to open his presents in the morning.  Last year he really didn't know what to do...this year, he was all over the present opening!
Some of his new toys were also very appealing to older brother Ruffy.
Later that day, we were headed off to a friend's house for a Chinese New Year party.  We made filling to make dumplings at the party and Gabe helped.
In the afternoon, we all went to the party.  Gabe even wanted to wear his Chinese clothes!  Usually Gabriel won't wear anything beyond a T shirt and sweatpants, so this was a big step for him!
The kids got to drive a John Deere car.  For a while, it was a little touch and go.
 The girls helped make dumplings.
And after dinner came the time to sing Happy Birthday to Xiao Yu--the moment he had been waiting for!  Xiao Yu does not quite realize what Chinese New Year is and thought that the whole party was just for him.

And here it was...he was surrounded by other families with kids adopted from China.

Here is a video of singing to him...he did not quite get the timing to the whole thing.

Xiao Yu wanted the piece with the caterpillar's head on it--and that's what he got.
He is still working on his self-feeding skills!
Emily was cutting the cake and since we didn't want to take any home, she cut huge slices.
Karina found her way to the video games downstairs.
Super Mario Kart can be quite fun!
Later on that night, the kids found the Halloween costumes.  Xiao Yu dressed up like Mushu from the movie Mulan.  And another little girl dressed up in a Ninjago costume.  It was funny seeing Xiao Yu with a big belly from the costume, because he doesn't have a tummy at all normally!
And here is the obligatory picture together at the end of the evening.
Happy Birthday Xiao Yu and Happy Chinese New Year to all!
